Our association is the leading organization behind the new promotional strategy for Mediaș. It developed the multi-concept plan to highlight the city's four most significant historical and cultural pillars. The association presented this strategy at the "Weinfest" event in September 2024 and is actively building collaborations with county authorities, tourism agencies, hotels, and restaurants to implement the concept.
The Four Pillars of "Mediaș – The core of Transylvania"
The strategy integrates four distinct themes to attract visitors with varied interests. According to the presentation at the Weinfest event, these pillars are:
- Hermann Oberth – The Father of Space Navigation: This pillar honors Hermann Oberth, one of the pioneers of rocketry and astronautics who was born in Mediaș. The strategy aims to connect the Hermann Oberth Memorial House in Mediaș with the Hermann Oberth Space Museum in Feucht, Germany, to promote space history tourism
- Gas (The History of Natural Gas): This pillar focuses on Mediaș's strategic role as the historic and modern center of Romania's natural gas industry, which you mentioned in your previous questions. The strategy looks forward to collaborating with the Natural Gas Museum in the city
- Wine (The Old Wine Metropolis): This pillar leverages Mediaș's over 800-year-old wine-growing history and its recognition as the "Old Wine Metropolis of Transylvania." The strategy was launched at "Weinfest" (Wine Festival), reinforcing this long-standing tradition
- Fortress (The Mediaș Fortress): The final pillar is built around the city's medieval fortified church and defensive towers, most notably the Trumpeters' Tower. The goal is to promote the historical and architectural heritage of the fortress and its walls
"Turrepitz" – The Guardian of the Fortress
As part of this campaign, a mascot named Turrepitz has been created. He is depicted in four unique personas corresponding to the four pillars—astronaut, gas specialist, knight, and sommelier. As the "guardian of the fortress," Turrepitz will greet tourists on the Trumpeters' Tower and present them the city, dressed for each concept accordingly.
